Trump Addresses Greenland’s Importance for US Security
While speaking to journalists aboard Air Force One, Trump remarked that Greenland is “so strategic” and asserted that it is currently encircled by Russian and Chinese vessels.
“We need Greenland, from the standpoint of national security, and Denmark is not going to be able to do it,” he said when questioned about possible US measures concerning the territory.
Trump further argued that American control over Greenland would benefit wider Western interests, noting that the European Union “needs us to have it” from a security perspective.
Greenland, which functions as a self-governing territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, has previously dismissed suggestions of any transfer of sovereignty.
