Trump Warns Venezuela’s Acting President
"If she doesn't do what's right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro," Trump stated during a phone interview with a media outlet. Maduro had been removed by U.S. forces from Venezuela on Saturday and is currently detained in New York, awaiting trial on alleged narcotics charges.
Trump emphasized that he would not tolerate what he described as Rodríguez’s defiance against the armed U.S. intervention, according to the magazine.
He further underscored that the United States requires Greenland "absolutely," reiterating that Venezuela may not be the final nation subject to American involvement.
"We do need Greenland, absolutely," Trump declared.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio remarked in another media interview on Sunday morning that Trump intends to keep all options available regarding how to "run" Venezuela.
He added that the administration will evaluate whether the interim leadership can "make right decisions" and will not exclude the possibility of a U.S. military presence in the country.
"We expect to see more compliance and cooperation than we were previously receiving," Rubio commented about Rodríguez with a news agency.
"Our objectives when it comes to how Venezuela impacts the national interest of the United States have not changed, and we want those addressed. We want drug trafficking to stop. We want no more gang members to come our way," Rubio concluded.
